Filed under: EV/Plug-in, Hybrid, Legislation and Policy, Green Daily, USAWhen the U.S. Congress passed H.R. 1424 and President Bush signed it into law today, not everyone was paying attention to the part about plug-in vehicles. Sure, this got a little play - and green car sites like ours were on it - but what's a few $7,500 tax credits in a $700 billion bill? Still, there are a lot of parts to the bill (read one take here) to digest and we're happy to explore the green car-related details a bit.If you want to read the language in the bill yourself, you can find the full text here (do a text se... Why would a car rental agency go Green?

We think that’s a fair question that deserves a straight answer. eQocar’s management worries about their ‘carbon footprint’ and we are keenly aware that a lot of people who rent cars for business or personal use, do too. Therefore, we created eQocar, a rental agency that provides hybrid rental cars... (original story)

Paris 2008: Land Rover Freelander 2 TD4_e

Filed under: Diesel, Land Rover, Paris Motor Show Land Rover Freelander 2 TD4_e Land Rover vehicles are not renowned for their fuel efficiency, at least not in a good way. Now that the English SUV builder is owned by India's Tata it has to make do without input from Ford and will have to meet future CO2 emissions limits without averaging with its former parent. As a step in that direction, Land Rover unveiled a new variant of the Freelander 2 (LR2 here in the states) at the Paris Motor Show. The TD4_e version adds a new "Intelligent Start/Stop" system along with an upshift light in the instrum... (original story)

Which xguages do you use and why?

I finally decided to cough up enough money for my Scanguage II, and I am wondering which xguages people keep up on their SG. Here is my current setup 1. Instant MPG. I use this to determine when my MPG is above the average MPG - so long as it is above, my MPG will be increasing. 2. TPS (Throttle... (original story)

Richard Branson to start Virgin Climate Change? Not exactly

Filed under: Emerging Technologies, Green Culture, Green DailyRichard Branson, he of the various Virgin Enterprises, has attached its name to a staggering array of ventures. Not the least of those is Virgin Galactic, which is currently hard at work sending space-age aircraft into heretofore uncharted territory. Space Ship Two and White Knight Two are the two latest machines going airborne for the firm, and these two craft will soon be carrying instruments for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The NOAA already does plenty of instrumented testing, but the only methods i... (original story)

Please help me understand MTE...

The reason for this question is to decide if I can make it 165 miles after work today from Las Vegas to Barstow to fill-up. I think MTE is calculated off of a 13.3 gallon threshold (thus allowing most drivers to drive 40-60 miles after MTE is zero - though I never do more than 5 or 10 becuase I am... (original story)

Unexpected Benefits

Last night I was sitting in the car waiting for my wife to come out of the grocery store. I had it in Park with the ignition on. I realized what a cool benefit it was to be able to have the engine off, but the A/C and the stereo running without the engine running. I know it would have to come on... (original story)

Paris 2008: Venturi Eclectic, the production version

Filed under: EV/Plug-in, NEV (Neighborhood Electric Vehicle), European Union, Paris Motor ShowWhile Venturi has cars that drive on the bleeding edge of technology and cost more than several Tesla Roadsters they have not forgotten those of us with more modest means and lesser needs. For folks with as little as €15,000 ($20,700) in pocket and no desire to cruise faster than 45 Kph (28 Mph) there is the newly revised Venturi Eclectric. You may remember the original Eclectic Concept from the 2006 Paris Motor Show with its box shape and open cockpit. This newer version is a little smaller, sli... (original story)

Husky Floor Liners

Last night I received a set of Husky liners for my Tahoe. The fronts are the standard Tahoe set and the rears are specific to the hybrid. I'm very happy with them, especially in the back where they dropped right in and fit perfectly. My only complaint is that the Grey color is a bit darker than I... (original story)

Tahoe mount for cell/sat/pda

I added a Panavise custom mount to mount my Sirius radio in my Tahoe. It installed fairly easily with the harderst part removing the "wood" bezel that surrounds the radio. It's very tight! I would've liked to mount it lower (I may move it later) but that would require some trimming of the mount... (original story)
