Filed under: Hybrid, Honda, Paris Motor Show Click above for a high-res gallery of the Honda Insight The biggest bit of greenery at the Paris Motor Show may be the Honda Insight concept. This is the car that's set to give the Prius a run for its money in the ongoing hybrid arms race in America, and it looks like it may have the goods to do proper battle. As has been stated, over and over again, the Insight bears a striking resemblance to its main rival from Toyota, but perhaps that's to be expected as both cars are meant to cheat the wind in an effort to reach maximum efficiency. This isn't th... (original story)

Filed under: Hydrogen, Citroen, Paris Motor Show GTbyCITROEN In Paris today, Citroën revealed a new concept called the GTbyCITROEN. Reportedly inspired by a car in the Gran Turismo 5 racing game, the GT lives up to the peculiar standards of a brand that is considered an oddball even by French standards. Citroën's press release is full of superlatives about the style and handling and performance of the GT but woefully short on actual details. This is almost certainly not a running vehicle but the release does mention an all electric powertrain with a fuel cell. Unfortunately, that's a... (original story)

Filed under: EV/Plug-in, On Two Wheels, USAWhen you hear the brand "Go-Ped" mentioned it may bring to mind a cool stand-up scooter with a tiny buzzy two-stroke engine powering the rear wheel and that is indeed the type of vehicle that Patmont Motor Werx has been best known for these past 24 years. However, since 2004 they have been producing electric versions of their minimalist transporters that take full advantage of the Go-Ped platform with its unique Cantilevered Independent Dynamic Linkless Indespension (C.I.D.L.I.) suspension system. Although the range of 12 miles with lead-acid batterie... (original story)

Filed under: Hybrid, Legislation and Policy, North AmericaIt's been 40 years since Mexico began taxing vehicles. Originally, the money was meant to fund the Olympic Games that took place there in 1968, but the income has apparently proven indispensable as it's still collected to this day. If proposed legislation from the Partido Verde Ecologista (a.k.a. the Mexican Green Party) passes, though, hybrid vehicles may soon be exempted from that tax plus the 15-percent consumption tax. In contrast, older, larger and more polluting cars would be subject to a tax increase. Meant to increase sales of f... (original story)

There is a favorable probability that HR 5734, the "Bell the Hybrid Act," is all but dead. There is no equivalent Senate bill and the current business has pretty well sucked out all of the oxygen. Sure there will be a lame duck session but I suspect it won't be terribly productive. Without claiming... (original story)

OK, since I can reproduce this easily I have to ask if anyone else is experiencing it: When driving at 30+MPH, if I put up all the windows in my TCH except one of the rear windows, I get a very rapid ongoing pulsation of air pressure inside the car, I'm talking repeated overpressure, to the point.... There are lots of posts on here about people buying new tires, and immediately losing fuel economy. This got me wondering if worn out tires get better fuel economy. They weigh some amount less, so they take less power to spin up to speed. If there is little or no tread depth left the resulting... (original story)
